Fact or Fiction: Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit are Coming to Disneyland

lord of the ringsLord of the Rings and the Hobbit are literary institutions that span many generations and gained a new form of popularity with the release of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy and the new Hobbit movies.  There are rumors in the air that Disney and Warner Brothers have brokered a deal or are close to completing one for the rights to build a Lord of the rings and Hobbit areas to Disney’s many different parks including the one in Anaheim.  There were also rumors that it would be Universal Studios who would have these rights but things have changed in Middle Earth.

Which Parks will Include a Lord of the Rings Adventure?

One of the first parks that are in consideration is the California Adventure Park which is currently going through an overhaul.  While again, this is a rumor and should be taken as such, there is always a fragment of truth in the middle of a rumor so for those who are getting excited, you may just have reason to be.

Hunting for Hobbits

It is also rumored that the theme parks will be looking for hobbits to give a realistic view of the attraction and to compete with other theme parks in the same area.  Having hobbit sized people for the attraction would bring a great feel of whimsy and would really be great for fans of the small star of the Hobbit.  Not to mention what a wonderful world it would be where you can buy mouse ears and hobbit feet in the same shop and at the same theme park.

The Controversy

Those who are in the know with the owners of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit entities say that there is no way that this would be acceptable.  The people who own the rights do not want anything to do with anything Disney but of course, this too could be a rumor with a small amount of truth hidden in the middle.  While Tolkien himself was not a fan of Disney or any of their productions and was not quiet about his dissention, the fact remains that he also didn’t think that a movie version of the Lord of the Rings was possible either.

Only time will tell whether a Disney and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit project will really come about but it sure is fun speculating!
