Tips for Traveling with Kids

You can accomplish this and even have a good time on your trip, even if you are driving, but you may want to use some of the tips listed below in order to do this.

  • Pack healthy snacks. Note that it is important to pack healthy snacks instead of snacks full of sugar and carbs. Sugar and carbs are unhealthy for your children anyhow, but snacks like these also lead to thirst and sometimes hyperactivity. Unless you feel like stopping every fifteen minutes to drain several small bladders, stick with things like carrot sticks and celery.
  • Drive at night as much as possible. If there are two adults going and you are going to be traveling for more than 10 hours, try to drive at night if possible. The children will sleep through the trip and you may be able to split the driving in half with the other adult. This will help you avoid repeated versions of “are we there yet” that may make you want to turn the car around.
  • Make use of hotel conveniences. Many hotels in the Anaheim area are prepared for families who come to visit Disneyland. They often provide a shuttle service that allows you to go from the hotel straight the the theme park. Since you don’t live in Anaheim, why bother worrying about traffic, directions, and gas stations when all you really want to do is get to Disneyland? Make use of the conveniences that these hotels offer so you can get the most enjoyment possible out of your stay and avoid being stuck in the car for any longer than you have to with children who are anxious to see their favorite Disney characters in real life.
  • Print off a list of activities. When the children are chanting the “I’m bored” mantra while you are trying to concentrate on directions or driving, it can be hard to come up with ways to entertain them. Make a list of activities that can be done in the car and pack the items that you need to do them with. Often these activities and items are as simple as a paper and pencil or crayons.
